I was published on Huffington Post again! You may remember previously that an article I wrote about mascara was published to Huffington Post and Apple News, and then another article I wrote about using Instagram or Snapchat to promote blog posts was published on Huffington Post and on Forbes.com. Well, now I’ve written an article about whether lingerie models find their jobs demeaning, and it was also published on Huffington Post!
Here is the article, should you be interested in checking it out! I drew on my years of experience as a lingerie model to answer - though I am sure that many more experienced and better known models may have different answers to the question, mine was (at least one) of the answers published on Huffington Post!
You may be wondering why this is categorized in the “muscles” part of my website. If you read the article, you may have a clue as to why, but I wanted to use this as an opportunity to go into greater detail about it!
In the article, I explain the difference between a commercial lingerie model, and a glamour model who models lingerie. I was almost 100% of the time more in the former category than the latter.
I also explain that I did my best to use my position as a model to break down normal stereotypes - to show that models (and young girls who may be looking to them as an example) don’t need to choose between being smart and being sexy, but can be both. I also felt that I specifically as a model was a good example for a healthier body image (muscular and fit, versus unhealthily thin). That reminded me of a specific debate that occurred as a result of me posting one of my portfolio-building images on facebook. Check it out here (and make sure you read the comments)!
And while you’re at it, maybe “Like” the page? Ha, couldn’t hurt to ask!
Anyway, that’s an example of an attempt to do what I described in the article that got published on Huffington Post!
What do you think? Do you think that what lingerie models do is demeaning? Any thoughts on my points? Comment below! I’d love to discuss! 💜
xoxo,
Mandie
