Happy Monday! You know what that means! It’s time for Bold Moves Podcast Episode 9er: Elle Russ! Tommy, my fiance, met Elle at Primal Con, a convention for enthusiasts of the Primal lifestyle/diet/nutrition plan, when he was there to present as a physical therapist! They formed a friendship, and we ended up having the pleasure of visiting Elle in Malibu a few times, and as I wrote in this post, I always found spending time with her energizing!
Since then, she has written a book that has earned three spots on the Amazon bestseller list, and based upon the actions that led to her writing the book, I think you can tell that this is not the first of her bold moves anyway!
Of course, here’s the video version, in case you prefer the visual!
I mention this in the intro, but the beginning is quite scientific, but don’t worry, it’s not the whole time – it’s just heavy at the beginning, so don’t lose heart! Stick with us!
Here’s more about Elle:
Elle Russ is a writer, health/life coach, and host of the Primal Blueprint Podcast. She is becoming the leading voice of thyroid health in the burgeoning Evolutionary Health Movement (also referred to as Paleo, Primal, or Ancestral Health). Elle has a B.A in Philosophy from The University of California at Santa Cruz and is a certified Primal Health Coach. She sits on the advisory board of The Primal Health Coach Program created by Mark Sisson, bestselling author ofThe Primal Blueprint. Originally from downtown Chicago, Elle lives and plays in Malibu, CA. You can learn more about her at http://www.elleruss.com.
Elle wrote The Paleo Thyroid Solution after consulting with over two dozen endocrinologists, internal medicine specialists, and general practice MDs…but her thyroid condition was only getting worse – and nothing from doctors resembled a solution, or even hope.
Exasperated and desperate, Elle took control of her own health and resolved two severe bouts of hypothyroidism on her own – including an acute Reverse T3 problem. Through a devoted paleo/primal lifestyle, intensive personal experimentation, and a radically modified approach to thyroid hormone replacement therapy…Elle went from fat, foggy, and fatigued – to fit, focused, and full of life!
You can order the book here*, and can get it at Barnes & Noble or other retailers!
In the podcast, we mentioned that we’d put some of the more technical parts (the tests she recommends asking for) in the show notes. Here they are!
Free T3
Free T4
TSH
Reverse T3
TPO ab (Thyroid Peroxidase Antibody test)
Tgab (Thyroglobulin Antibody test)
DHEA Sulfate
Ferritin
Homocysteine
Vitamin B-12
Vitamin D 25-hydroxy
HbA1c
As I mention as a disclaimer in the introduction to this episode, this is not meant to be medical advice, nor is it meant to suggest that people should not listen to their doctors, or that doctors are bad. The bold move of Elle’s I’m praising is not accepting one diagnosis as her life sentence, but doing her own research and becoming an expert to advocate for herself. I think thinking critically and exploring the root of problems as opposed to addressing symptoms is a great quality! 😉
Here are her book and YouTube recommendations!
YouTube: Joe DiSpenza, Infinite Possibilites audiobook (regular book here) and Thoughts Become Things DVD (written book here) (and anything else) by Mike Dooley, Primal Blueprint, The Secret (audiobook), Hay House Radio, and Gaia.com!
And you can find her at ElleRuss.com, twitter & instagram, facebook at Elle Russ and The Paleo Thyroid Solution!
I am sure that it comes as no surprise to you that there’s a giveaway again this week. I have several lined up! This week, Elle is generous enough to give a 45-minute session with her – whether it’s her life coaching skills or health coaching skills, you’re bound to learn something and have a great time! She’s also giving away a few copies of her book to some lucky winners!

I’ll have to check this podcast out, thanks! I definitely struggle with hypothyroidism so it hits close to home.

Oh my goodness! It’s like it was meant to be! PLEASE do listen, or watch the YouTube version if you prefer. It could potentially change your life! Did you enter the giveaway? You could win her book! Thanks for visiting!
I’ll have to check this podcast out, considering I’ve got Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis. Might be able to learn something new from her! Thyroid stuff is no fun, and anything that might help some of my struggles I’m interested in hearing.

This is perfect timing! My mom is being tested for hypothyroidism and while she hasn’t yet received the results she was already given a paleo diet by her MD. I’ll definitely pass on this info to her.
It’s meant to be! I hope you listen to Elle’s interview as well and find it helpful!
